Apply for a Credit Card

Applying for a credit card has become much easier over the years. Credit card companies and online credit web sites have made the application process as simple as a couple of clicks of the mouse. Let’s not forget that a countless number of credit card applications make their way on to the front doorsteps of American homes every day. So, access to credit card applications are literally everywhere you look. Credit card companies have strived to make this possible, and it is up to the consumer to make a wise decision prior to the application process.

Basic Factors to Consider Before Applying:

The steps made by the consumer before the credit card application process should be taken with many factors in consideration. When deciding on a new credit card, the interest rate is perhaps the most important factor to consider. If your credit is in poor shape, you may want to consider a credit card that caters to people with bad credit. Not only will you have a better chance of being approved for a credit card for poor credit, but you will also be given to the opportunity to raise your credit score. If you are searching for a credit card that has low interest rates and great rewards there are many cards to choose from as well. Many different credit cards offer various rewards for airline travel, hotel accommodations, cash back, discounts on merchandise, gas purchases, and several others. There are credit cards that cater to businesses, small business owners, and students as well. There may be an occasion when you find two or more cards that meet your specific needs. In this situation it is wise to take fees and other costs associated with each card into consideration. Some cards may have an initial setup fee while others do not. Also, some credit cards may incur an annual fee while others do not. Overall, in most cases a credit card with no fees or lower fees will cost you less in the long run.

Application Process:

After choosing the right credit card, it is time to apply. As mentioned, the credit card application process can be very simple and take very little time. As a convenience, most credit card companies and online credit web sites can respond to an application and give you definite answers regarding your approval in less than 24 hours. However, some responses to online applications can take up a couple of weeks. If you are mailing your credit card application to the credit card company, it may take longer to receive a response due to the mailing time.

In some circumstances, credit card applications will differ slightly, however they typically require the same information and ask similar questions. The most common requirements on a credit card application concern basic information. This will include your name, email address, telephone number, address of residence, and date of birth. Your social security number must be given as well. Many credit card applications will ask questions regarding your current housing situation. This typically includes questions regarding how long you have been living at your current residence, whether you rent or own, and what your housing payment is per month. Credit card applications will require information regarding your total annual household income. Lastly, employment information must be given. This will include your employer’s name or the company’s name, your occupation, how long you have been working at your current job, and the business telephone number. Some, but not all credit card applications will inquire as to whether or not you have a checking or debit account and if you have a savings, IRA, or money market account.

Take your time when looking for the right credit card. Consider your needs. Once you have found the card that is right for you, begin the application process. It will be simple and straightforward. After that, you can only wait. Fortunately, responses concerning approval are received quickly for today’s credit card applications. Good Luck!
