The 10 Best Undiscovered Money Blogs
Money: it's a topic we all care about. So there are a lot of money blogs focusing on debt, investing, budgeting, and countless other topics. Here are 10 that we love, and that we predict
are on the cusp of going mainstream.
1. AL6400
Written by Alan Yu, this blog is an overall look at personal finance from multiple perspectives. Whether he's discussing seasonal spending patterns, running a cost analysis of finding free resources for one of his personal projects, or looking at consumer spending through one-day sales, Alan always has something interesting to say. This is a blog we always learn something new from whenever we read it.
2. The $2 Million Blog
Brian, a North Carolina computer engineer, has a very simple goal: he wants to earn $2 million dollars and thus guarantee his financial freedom for the rest of his life. His blog details how, precisely, he's going about putting those funds together, as well as tracking his goal (he's currently over $800,000!) This is a great blog for those looking to put together a small fortune, or just making their investments pay better.
3. The Year Of Shopping Detox
This blog is exactly what it sounds like: a young librarian from Canada stops shopping cold turkey to get her debt paid off. Can she live a more frugal life? Only time will tell. What keeps us coming back to this blog is the little personal touches: her recounting of her father's many different ways of saving money was both hilarious and touching at the same time. It’s especially great for shopaholics, and a lot of fun on a Monday morning.
4. DINKS Finance
DINKS stands for “Dual Income, No Kids,” but the advice on here can be useful for anybody. The lead blogger, Kristina, is a financial adviser who provides a lot of anecdotes from her work, and offers some insight into strategies on saving money. For example, a recent blog had Kristina breaking down the advantages and drawbacks of being on a cash budget, how it might work, and who should try it. For single and young couples especially, this is a must-read.
5. Neville's Financial Blog
Built over six years, Neville offers a unique insight into how a young entrepreneur works, with probably the least ego of any financial blogger we've seen. In his FAQs, he states you shouldn't take any financial advice from him and answers the question of whether he should have sought a business degree in college with a flat “No.” His blog has a lot to offer and to chew over, especially for the entrepreneurial spirit.
6. Six Figures And Broke
Ever wonder what it's like to have a six figure income and still be in a ridiculous amount of debt? Look no further. The blogger, who has two special needs children and wants to stay anonymous, lays out how she and her husband paid off a staggering $70,000 in debt in only 14 months. It's inspirational for the rest of us, and a great demonstration of the debt snowball.
7. Money Musings
Courtesy of the head of the site “It's Your Money,” Michael offers some of the funniest and thoughtful commentary on money in the media. Whether he's mocking stories insisting young people can get high self-esteem out of enormous debt, or pointing out our financial unpreparedness, he's always got something to say, and it's always fun to read.
8. Everything Finance
This is pretty much exactly what it says in the title: everything about finance you could possibly want to know, from picking a financial advisor to accepting payments on the go. We've yet to run into a more comprehensive blog on the topic of personal finance, and every day has something new.
9. Hustler Money Blog
Thankfully not affiliated with the magazine that has a similar name, Hustler Money Blog is all about how to get the most money out of your credit cards, rewards points, and bank rewards. It includes detailed lists of bank bonuses, in-depth comparisons of credit card rewards, and other financial advice. If you want to pick up a few extra bucks, this is the blog for you.
10. Financial Nut
Last but not least, we have a blog that lives up to its name. Want in-depth comparisons of stocks? FN has it. Advice on streamlining your business? FN has it. Gas price analysis? FN has it. There's not a more detailed, not to mention engaging, money blog online.
