Pro:I had a credit score of 512 CK. I got approved for $500 and it has gone up to $1500 after one year. My credit score is now 630. Make sure you keep ure balance under 30% usage. i.e. my limit is $1500 so i keep my balance under $450. That is what's building my credit.

Con:Always pay on time b/c the fee is $40 and intrest kicks in after your first year.

I just want to say first off, THANK YOU CAPITAL ONE FOR BELIEVING IN ME!! I got the CapOne Secured credit card back in October. I've made my payments on time, every month. It's usually paid in full. I use it quite a bit and it's a blessing to have for those little emergencies that you can't get around.

This evening, I thought, what the heck, I'll check the prequalify website. It said I was prequalified for the Platinum and the Quicksilver, but I know the Quicksilver is a little harder to get and I didn't want to take an inquiry for nothing if I didn't have a chance at approval. So I applied for the Platinum and BOOM! Approved for $500 unsecured! That is a HUGE deal for me. I'm trying so hard to fix my credit and I'm so glad that Capital One is helping me with this. What a great company.

If you play by the rules, and pay your bills on time your credit CAN AND WILL turn around. When I started rebuilding my credit in October, my CK score was 499. It's gone up 55 points just by paying my Capital One bill on time and using my Fingerhut Fresh Start account ( that I paid off today, too!)

After a divorce, a job loss, and a lot of poor decisions I finally got it together and started taking my credit seriously.  I tried for 5 years to improve my score with just a car loan, but the improvement was slow and minute.  Once my score was up to 615 I decided to try for a credit card.  Capital One was my only option.  i was approved for a $300 line of credit with the promise of an increase to $500 if I made my payments on time for 6 months while enrolled in their Credit Steps program.

i used the card as sort of a personal Payday Loan.  If I wanted or needed something but my paycheck had not arrived yet, I would buy it and use my paycheck to pay it off every month.  My utilization was high.  Even though I paid my card off every month, I would almost immediately put a balance back on it.  My credit card utilization reported at between 50% to 97% every month, my credit score dropped about 50 points because of it.

It's because of my high utilization that I expected that after 6 months of payments I would see a credit line increase to $500 as promised, but no more, so I nearly fell out of my chair the morning I logged into my account and saw that it had gone up to $3,300!

I called CapitalOne because I read that they will upgrade to the Quicksilver Rewards card with 1.5% cash back when you successfully complete their Credit Steps program.  They were happy to upgrade my card for me, it was quick, easy, and because the new card will have the same number as the old card I don't have to call Netflix and Audible to change my payment method.

i haven't yet seen my new credit score that reflects the higher line of credit, which drastically lowers my utilization, but I am quite looking forward to it.

Bottom line; Capital One will take a chance on you.  The interest rate is high, but that comes with rebuilding credit, and can be avoided by paying off the balance every month.  Be good to them and they will return the favor.  Life just became a lot easier, and I suspect that many of my payments will lower because Capital One single handedly increased my score, which helps me to get lower interest rates on everything else.

I intend to be a loyal customer for life.

About six months ago I applied for this card, and I was aproved for a cl of $300. A week later, I got my card with a welcome package. The paper said that after my first five payments, I was going to get a cl increase of $200. However, yesterday I got an email in which they alert me that my credit line was increase to $2300. I couldn't believe it since I have had this card for only six months!! Thank you Capital One!!!!
