Individuals with bad credit history often find it difficult to secure a new credit card and without actively trying, a bad credit rating will not disappear on its own. However, there are certain types of credit cards on the market, which are specifically meant for people with bad credit. By using these credit cards responsibly, paying at least your minimum payment on time each month and to all your creditors and keeping your account balances low relative to the credit limit, you may improve your credit over time. There are fewer options for those who have tarnished credit, but it’s not hopeless. We have assembled our top three cards from our partners.

1. Capital One® Secured MasterCard®
This is a secured credit card offered by Capital One, which requires making a security deposit. A great card for helping to assist you in rebuilding your credit, there are no annual fees or any hidden charges associated with this card. If you are unfamiliar with how secured cards work, please read more here.

While this card has a fairly high variable APR and there are no associated rewards, those are a minimal price to pay for someone trying to get their credit back on track. The Capital One® Secured MasterCard® also offers one of the lowest required deposits. Other secured cards can require up to $500 to get a line of credit. If payments are made on time, users can also expect to see an increase in their credit lines.

By using this card properly, and paying your minimum payment on time each month and keeping your balance low relative to your limit- you may work towards improving your credit and also increase credit lines over time. It should be noted that the First PREMIER® Bank MasterCard® is one of our most applied for credit cards.

3. Credit One Platinum Visa® Cash Back Rewards Credit Card
